Of 160 patients entered in the Trial, 150 had interpretable preinfusion and postinfusion angiograms. The advantage of urokinase over heparin was apparent in the subjective evaluations of pre-and postinfusion angiograms and in the objective analysis of the angiograms, which was concerned [see figure in the PDF file] only with the quantifiable amount of emboli. Patients with massive pulmonary emboli showed somewhat greater improvement than those with submassive emboli. In the very small group of patients in shock, the treatment effect with urokinase was impressive.
