In Vivo Evaluation of Dacron Velour as a Nonthrombogenic Surface
The healing properties of Dacron velour were evaluated after its implantation in the canine aorta, vena cava, and left atrial appendage. A high incidence of thrombosis was observed, both in sacrificed animals and those that died spontaneously. The thrombus was invariably tightly adherent to the wall of the graft. No evidence of peripheral embolization was apparent. Histologic examination did not reveal anything unique in the healing of Dacron velour but rather it conformed to the healing process previously described with other Dacron vascular prostheses.
