A New Instrument for Rapid Bedside Diagnosis of Cardiac Arrhythmias
The electrocardiophone is a new, miniaturized, self-contained inexpensive device for the bedside recognition of cardiac arrhythmias. It converts electrocardiographic signals to frequency-modulated audiotone patterns that the physician can readily learn to recognize. It is most useful in situations calling for rapid diagnosis, such as cardiac resuscitation and the monitoring of patients in transit. It is helpful in timing heart sounds and murmurs, and may prove to have practical value in the differential diagnosis of pacemaker failure as well.
