Kidney Function in Cor Pulmonale
Particular Consideration of Changes in Renal Hemodynamics and Sodium Excretion during Variation in Level of Oxygenation
Renal hemodynamics and sodium excretion were investigated in two groups of patients with cor pulmonale: group 1 was in heart failure at the time of study, and group 2 had previously been in heart failure. These subjects, who were virtually or potentially in heart failure, were exposed to various levels of oxygenation in order to aggravate acutely or relieve their chronic anoxia. The compensatory adjustments in kidney function to these changes in oxygen tension and their implications constitute the substance of this report.
