We read with interest the study by Boyd et al1 evaluating the association between fetal congenital heart defects and maternal risk of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy in the same pregnancy and across pregnancies, which demonstrated that congenital heart defects have a strong association with preterm preeclampsia, both in the same pregnancy and across pregnancies. As the authors note in this article, linked pathophysiological mechanisms may be involved in some congenital heart defects and preterm preeclampsia. After reading this article carefully, we have some suggestions to point out as follows.
