To the Editor:
Dr Chatterjee et al1 evaluated the causal association between body mass index (BMI) and incident atrial fibrillation by using genetic predictors of BMI. They observed a causal relationship between BMI and incident atrial fibrillation, supporting primordial prevention of obesity to reduce the incidence of atrial fibrillation in public health. To provide a strong confidence, they performed a mendelian randomization study, the most updated technique using data from genome-wide association studies consortia.
