Dr Dalzell and colleagues raise an important issue regarding our article.1 Recent findings indicate that 15% of women diagnosed with peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) carry mutations similar to ones associated with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM).2 In light of these findings, should these women be excluded from a diagnosis of PPCM?
