In the article by Watanabe et al, “Metabolic Syndrome and Risk of Development of Atrial Fibrillation: The Niigata Preventive Medicine Study,” which appeared in the March 11, 2008 issue of the journal (Circulation. 2008;117:1255–1260), there was an error on line 8 of the Methods and Results section of the Abstract. In the published article, the authors referred to “impaired insulin tolerance.” This should have read “impaired fasting glucose.” The corrected text should appear as follows: “Among the metabolic syndrome components, obesity (age- and sex-adjusted hazard ratio [HR], 1.64), elevated blood pressure (HR, 1.69), low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HR, 1.52), and impaired fasting glucose (HR, 1.44 [NCEP-ATP III] and 1.35 [AHA/NHLBI]) showed an increased risk for AF.”
Corrections have also been made to Tables 2 and 4, where the authors used “impaired glucose tolerance.” This has been replaced with “impaired fasting glucose.”
The corrections have been made to the current online version of the manuscript. The authors regret the errors.
