In the article by Pauletto et al that appeared in a previous issue of the journal (Circulation. 2000;102:771–778), a measurement was reported incorrectly. In the Methods section under Immunocytochemistry and Image Analysis (p 772, first full paragraph in second column), the reported area of 70 μm2 used for plaque consideration should have been reported as 7×103 μm2. The corrected information follows:
For cell count, we considered 3 standard areas (7×103 μm2) of the plaque: the basal, the shoulder, and the cap regions. In 65% of the specimens, it was possible to clearly distinguish and analyze some of the media layer underneath the plaque. In these cases, 3 random fields (7×103 μm2) were considered.
