Correction

In the article "Emergence of Sex Differences in Prevalence of High Systolic Blood Pressure: Analysis of a Longitudinal Adolescent Cohort" by Dasgupta et al that published in the December 12, 2006, issue of the journal (Circulation. 2006;114:2663–2670), the number of hours of sedentary behavior per week was computed by summing estimated hours for a typical weekday and a typical weekend day. The weekday value should first have been multiplied by 5 and the weekend day value by 2 (see Table below). This correction affects only the association between higher systolic blood pressure and sedentary behavior (5-hour increment per week), with odds ratios of 1.04 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.00 to 1.08) instead of 1.17 (95% CI, 1.04 to 1.33) (page 2666, paragraph 3) for girls and boys combined; 0.98 (95% CI, 0.91 to 1.06) instead of 0.96 (95% CI, 0.72 to 1.28) for girls only; and 1.06 (95% CI, 1.02 to 1.11) instead of 1.24 (95% CI, 1.08 to 1.41) for boys only (page 2667, Figure 2, "TV/Video games").

The authors wish to clarify 2 additional points. They opted to remove 3 less intense activities from the Weekly Activity Checklist 7-day recall: walking, mixed walking/running/jogging, and outdoor play (climbing trees, hide-and-seek). This point was not originally specified (page 2664, paragraph 2). Finally, "tobacco use—yes or no" better represents their categorization of tobacco use for 3-month recall than "tobacco use—ever or never" (page 2664, paragraph 3).
