(Power Point) (421 KB) Lovastatin activates AMPK in cultured BAECs. (A) BAECs were treated with 10 μM lovastatin for the time indicated. (B) BAECs were treated with various concentrations of lovastatin for 10 min. The cells were then lysed followed by Western blotting with various primary antibodies as shown, then were visualized by the ECL system.

(Power Point) (33.5 KB) Atorvastatin does not affect the AMP/ATP ratio in HUVECs. HUVECs were treated with 0.1 or 1 μM atorvastatin for 10 min. In control experiments, cells were untreated or treated with 0.5 mM DNP, an agent known to elevate cellular AMP/ATP20 for 20 min. The nucleotides in HUVECs were extracted with perchloric acid and the levels of AMP and ATP were assessed by HPLC. The ratio of AMP/ATP is the amounts of AMP normalized to that of ATP. Results are representative from 2 sets of experiments.
