TABLE 4. Multivariable Association of Plasma Resistin Levels With Coronary Artery Calcification in SIRCA
Adjusted for
Odds Ratio (CI)
P
Age, sex 1.23 (1.03 to 1.47) 0.02
Age, sex, RF* 1.23 (1.02 to 1.47) 0.03
Age, sex, RF,{dagger} metabolic syndrome 1.25 (1.04 to 1.50) 0.01
Age, sex, RF,{dagger} metabolic syndrome, CRP 1.23 (1.02 to 1.47) 0.03

Odds ratio and 95% CI for increase in CAC category for a 5-ng/mL increase in plasma resistin levels. CAC categories used in ordinal regression were CAC 0, CAC 1–10, CAC 11–100, CAC >100.
*Risk factors (RF*) included total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, systolic blood pressure, cigarette smoking, exercise, alcohol, race, family history of premature coronary artery disease, and medication use (aspirin, statin, ß-blocker, and hormone replacement therapy in women). In models that contained metabolic syndrome, non–metabolic syndrome risk factors (RF{dagger}) were smoking, exercise, alcohol intake, race, LDL cholesterol, and medication use. There was no statistically significant interaction between sex and plasma resistin levels in the association with CAC.
