Editor’s Commentary

James T. Willerson, MD, Editor-in-Chief

With the initiation of carefully selected Supplements, Circulation has inaugurated a new educational effort for its readership. It is our intention to publish from time-to-time educationally oriented supplements that bring to our readership a full discussion of important topics in cardiovascular medicine. In this supplement, the Society for Vascular Medicine and Biology presents the second Series of Monographs on Venous Thromboembolic Disease. Each of these papers has been reviewed by the Society, by Circulation’s reviewers, and by the Editor.

We shall focus on supplements that are truly educational, and that are meant to broaden the abilities of physicians, nurses, and technical support staff who see and care for patients with cardiovascular disease. Through this supplement, and ones that will follow in the coming months, the Editor and Associate Editors of Circulation believe that the readership will become better informed about selected aspects of cardiovascular disease and will be even better prepared to treat patients with these problems.
