(.avi) (13.4 MB). Flip-book movie of an sham-operated embryonic chick heart at stage 22 (day 4) created from the three dimensional data set generated by Magnetic Resonance Microscopy (MRM). A still image is shown in Figure 2A in the printed manuscript. Depicted is the early heart tube in the frontal plane. The images scan through the heart from posterior (starting with the inflow limb) to anterior showing the outflow limb of the cardiac loop and the presumptive right ventricle toward the end of the clip. Cardiac structures such as the compact outflow myocardium, myocardial wall, trabeculated myocardium, the cardiac jelly, atrioventricular endocardial cushions, sinus venosus, atria, and atrial septa can be identified easily. The movie was created in Matlab (The MathWorks).

(.avi) (13.6 MB). Flip-book movie of an sham-operated embryonic chick heart at stage 22 (day 4) created from the three dimensional data set generated by Magnetic Resonance Microscopy (MRM). A still image is shown in Figure 2B in the printed manuscript. Depicted is the early heart tube in the sagittal plane. The images scan through the heart from left lateral (starting with the left atrium) to right lateral side of the embryo showing the presumptive right ventricle and the outflow limb of the cardiac loop toward the end of the clip.

(.avi) (23.3 MB). Flip-book movie of a cardiac neural crest-ablated embryonic chick heart at stage 22 (day 4) created from the three dimensional data set generated by Magnetic Resonance Microscopy (MRM).

(.avi) (14.8 MB). Flip-book movie of a cardiac neural crest-ablated embryonic chick heart at stage 22 (day 4) created from the three dimensional data set generated by Magnetic Resonance Microscopy (MRM). Depicted is the early heart tube in the sagittal plane. The images scan through the heart from left lateral (starting with the left atrium) to right lateral side of the embryo showing the the presumptive right ventricle and the outflow limb of the cardiac loop toward the end of the clip. Cardiac structures such as the compact outflow myocardium, myocardial wall, trabeculated myocardium, the cardiac jelly, atrioventricular endocardial cushions, sinus venosus, atria, and atrial septa can be identified easily. (.mov) (6.85 MB). Animated 3-dimensional reconstruction of a sham-operated embryonic chick heart at stage 22 (day 4) presented “on a rotating plate” created from the three dimensional data set generated by Magnetic Resonance Microscopy (MRM). As shown in selected still images in Figure 3 (A though D) the aortic arch arteries, inflow limb of the heart tube (sinus venosus, superior and inferior vena cava, left and right atrium), the outflow tract, outflow myocardium, and the presumptive ventricle of the heart tube are depicted. Compare all cardiac structures with the cardiac neural crest-ablated embryonic chick heart at stage 22 (day 4) in Movie 6. The rotational 3-D movie was created in VoxelView (Vital Images, Fairfield, IA).

(.mov) (6.56 MB). Animated 3-dimensional reconstruction of a cardiac neural crest-ablated embryonic chick heart at stage 22 (day 4) presented “on a rotating plate” created from the three dimensional data set generated by Magnetic Resonance Microscopy (MRM). As shown in selected still images in Figure 3 (E though H) the aortic arch arteries, inflow limb of the heart tube (sinus venosus, superior and inferior vena cava, left and right atrium), the outflow tract, outflow myocardium, and the presumptive ventricle of the heart tube are depicted. Compare all cardiac structures with the sham-operated embryonic chick heart at stage 22 (day 4) in Movie 5. In sham-operated embryos the presumptive ventricles appear U-shaped in the frontal plane, with the outflow limb arising almost vertically from the presumptive ventricle, followed by a curving bend toward the midline (A). Note the ventrally and cranially displacement of the presumptive ventricle and its trabeculated myocardium, the degree of trabeculae in the outflow tract, and the abnormal configuration of aortic arch arteries of the cardiac neural crest-ablated embryos as compared with sham-operated embryos. The rotational 3-D movie was created in VoxelView (Vital Images, Fairfield, IA).
