In the Cardiovascular News article, "American Heart Association 2001 Scientific Sessions: Late-Breaking Science," by Robin Fox that appeared in the November 20, 2001, issue of the journal (Circulation. 2001;104:e9051), an error appeared. The fourth sentence from the end of the first paragraph read: "When allowance is made for noncompliance and treatment changes during the trial, Collins concludes that simvastatin reduced these major vascular events by at least one third in a wide range of high-risk patients for whom the indication for cholesterol-lowering therapy had been uncertainnotably, women, people >70 years of age, and people with an LDL cholesterol level <200 mg/dL (
3 mmol/L)."
The value "200 mg/dL" was incorrect. The corrected sentence follows:
"When allowance is made for noncompliance and treatment changes during the trial, Collins concludes that simvastatin reduced these major vascular events by at least one third in a wide range of high-risk patients for whom the indication for cholesterol-lowering therapy had been uncertainnotably, women, people >70 years of age, and people with an LDL cholesterol level <120 mg/dL (
3 mmol/L)."
