Odds ratio and 95% CI for increase in CAC category for a 5-ng/mL increase in plasma resistin levels. CAC categories used in ordinal regression were CAC 0, CAC 1–10, CAC 11–100, CAC >100.
*Risk factors (RF*) included total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, systolic blood pressure, cigarette smoking, exercise, alcohol, race, family history of premature coronary artery disease, and medication use (aspirin, statin, ß-blocker, and hormone replacement therapy in women). In models that contained metabolic syndrome, non–metabolic syndrome risk factors (RF{dagger}) were smoking, exercise, alcohol intake, race, LDL cholesterol, and medication use. There was no statistically significant interaction between sex and plasma resistin levels in the association with CAC.
